About Us

Oom Polla se Winkel started in 1993, supplying second hand books to learners. The shop is situated under the Japie Krige Hall on the grounds of Paul Roos Gymnasium.

Originally the core business was supplying learners of Paul Roos Gymnasium individually and directly with their school books and school stationery. However, over the years 4 more schools have been added to our portfolio, and we now supply learners of Paul Roos Gymnasium, Hoërskool Stellenbosch, Rhenish Girls’ High School, Somerset West Private School and Bloemhof Hoërskool. The Gr1-learners of Laerskool Stellenbosch is supplied with a stationery box, compiled by us according to the school’s specifications.

We see ourselves as a specialist shop, and can source any school book which is still in print. In recent years the business had diversified, and we can now supply anybody from another school with books. A large range of study guides are stocked.

Administrative stationery is supplied to schools and businesses, and prices are very competitive.

We are a member of SABA (The South African Booksellers Association)

At the start of the business it was run by Renché Damon, with additional help over December and January. Presently there are 5 full time workers and 2 part time employees during the year with additional part time help over December/January of approximately 50 people. It also has become a family run business with 4 family members being involved on a full time basis.
